CONWAY, Edward Michael

Edward was a forty two year old married man with children when he enlisted at Inverell in December 1915.  When he took the oath he agreed to serve from 12 January 1916, the day of the departure from Inverell of the First Contingent of The Kurrajongs.

After joining The Kurrajongs he became a member of the 33rd Battalion, A Company and trained at Armidale and Rutherford prior to sailing from Australia in May on the transport HMAT Marathon. His Battalion then trained at Salisbury Plain in England as part of the 3rd Division which was sent to France in November 1916.

Edward’s war was short as he was returned to England in January 1917 suffering from bronchial asthma. He was admitted to 3rd London General Hospital where sadly it was decided he was unfit for service and that he would be returned to Australia.  After arriving home on the ship Runic he was discharged in August 1917.
