FRASER, Harold Campbell

Harold was the sixth and youngest son of William W.B. Fraser and his wife Margaret nee Campbell of Brodies Plains near Inverell. He was born at Inverell in 1876 and served with the 3rd NSW Bushmen in South Africa during the Boer War. Thirty nine year old Harold was working as a Drover when he enlisted in December 1915. 

He joined with the First Contingent of The Kurrajongs who left Inverell on 12 January 1916 to go into camp at Narrabri and then on to Armidale.  He became a member of the 33rd Battalion D Company which trained at Armidale and Rutherford prior to leaving Australia on HMAT A74 Marathon in May. After arriving in England where further training took place at Salisbury Plain, he was transferred to the 3rd Battalion and sent to France in September. In 1917 he was detached for duty with the 1st Division and later rejoined his unit in France.

Private Harold Campbell returned to Australia in May 1919 on the ship 'Aeneas' and was discharged on 26 August 1919.  His name is inscribed on the Inverell Honor Roll.
