DALE, Percy Charles

Percy, the son of John and Lily Dale was born in Cornwall, England about 1894.  He was a twenty two year old labourer at Inverell when he enlisted in January 1916 and agreed to serve from 29 February.  He joined other district men to form the Second Contingent of The Kurrajongs who left Inverell together for the Narrabri and Armidale camps.

He became a member of the 33rd Battalion, 2nd Reinforcement which trained at Armidale and Rutherford prior to leaving Australia in September on HMAT A15 Port Sydney.  After arriving in England further training was undertaken at Salisbury Plain.  He was transferred to 9th Training Battalion in December and then sent to France in February 1917.  Percy was wounded in action in July and transferred back to England and admitted to Northamptonshire War Hospital.  He returned to France in November and several months later was gassed and again admitted to hospital.  He rejoined his unit at the end of July 1918 and three weeks later was gassed again at Bray.  This time he was invalided back to England and admitted to Kitchener Military Hospital at Brighton. 

Private Date returned to Australia on HT Karmala in January 1919 and was discharged in July.  His name is recorded on the Inverell Honor Roll.
