HALL, Edward Thomas James

Edward’s birth to Edward and Mary Hall was registered at Inverell in 1887. In 1916 he married Harriet McCaw at Warialda before he left for the War.  He enlisted at Warialda in January 1916 and joined other district men known as the Second Contingent of The Kurrajongs on their journey to camp at Narrabri and then Armidale.

He became a member of the 33rd Battalion, 1st Re-enforcement which trained at Armidale and Rutherford prior to sailing from Australia on HMAT A74 Marathon in May 1916. After nine weeks at sea they arrived in England where further training was undertaken at Salisbury Plain before going to France in November.  He was then attached to the 9th Australian Light Trench Mortar Battery.

Private Edward Hall was killed in action near Armentieres, France on 23 December 1916 and buried at Cite Bonjean Military Cemetery.  His identity disc and personal effects were returned to his wife who was granted a pension of two pounds per fortnight plus one pound per fortnight for their daughter Edna. His name is inscribed on the Warialda Honor Roll.
