McDONALD, Thomas

Although Thomas enlisted at Tingha in January 1916, he is listed by the Inverell Times Newspaper, 29 February, 1916 as being one of the members of the Second Kurrajongs who left Inverell together on that day. Thomas, the thirty eight year old son of Mrs. Elizabeth Page of Tingha, was working as a Miner before the War. 

He became a member of the 33rd Battalion, 1st Reinforcement which sailed from Australia on HMAT A74 Marathon in May 1916. After arriving in England in July he entered the 9th Training Battalion at Larkhill until transferred to the 53rd Battalion and being sent to France in September.  Thomas was wounded in May 1917 and suffered shell shock.  He returned to Australia on the Beltana in June 1919 and was discharged.  He died in 1949 and was buried at Tingha.
