GLASSER, Harold Malcolm

Harold’s birth in 1896 to Charles and Emily Glasser, was registered at Glen Innes.  When he enlisted at Inverell in December 1915 his family were living at the property ‘Albertina’ at Ashford.  As he was under age, his parents gave their consent for service overseas.  Harold joined a group of eighteen other men who left Inverell together on 1 February 1916 for the Narrabri Camp.  He was there for six weeks before he was rejected on medical grounds.

After having some surgery, Harold enlisted again and was eventually accepted in May 1918.  Just before his departure for overseas, the residents of Ashford organised a farewell function for him at which he was presented with a pocket wallet.  He left Australia on the troopship Borda, arriving in England in September. He was sent to France in January 1919 where he remained until returned to Australia in May.  Harold was discharged two months later.
