EVERETT, George Foster

George was born in Sydney where he served an apprenticeship in Dentistry before coming to Warialda c 1914.  He was the Honorary Secretary of the Warialda Golf club when it opened that year.  

George was a single man, aged twenty seven when he enlisted in 1916. His name is recorded in the Warialda Standard (17 January 1916) and Inverell Times newspaper, 14 January 1916, as one of the men who agreed to enlist during the Kurrajongs recruiting rally and that he would ‘leave in a few days’.

His enlistment papers show he joined in May 1916 and that he sailed from Sydney on the RMS Malwa on 22 July 1916, arriving in Egypt the following month.  He served with the 16th Dental Unit of the 12th Battalion.  George was promoted to Staff Sergeant in December and Lieutenant in April 1917.  He was seriously wounded in May 1917 and returned to Australia.

During 1918 George married Valerie Dalrymple and by 1920 was working in Elizabeth Street, Sydney.  Four years later he advertised his practice at Strathfield.  He died on 10 August 1933 in Sydney.
