ANDERSON, Ernest

Ernest and his twin brother, Andrew, became members of Inverell's first contingent of The Kurrajongs after enlisting at the end of 1915. Their younger brother, Arnold, had already enlisted and was serving with the 12th Light Horse Regiment, 2nd Reinforcements. They were the sons of Alexander and Elizabeth Anderson of Oakwood, north of Inverell.

Ernest and Andrew served with the 33rd Battalion, C Company which left Sydney on 4 May 1916 on the ship HMAT A74 Marathon. After training in England they were sent to France at the end of that year. Ernest was wounded three times and twice taken to hospital in England to recover.

Private Ernest Anderson returned to Australia in December 1918 and his younger brother Arnold returned in July 1919. Their names are recorded on the Oakwood and Cherry Tree Hill Honor Roll held in the Oakwood Hall at Inverell Pioneer Village.
