ROBINSON, Colin Allen

Colin’s birth was registered at Inverell in 1893. He was educated at Inverell Public School and lived with his parents James and Mary in Wood Street, Inverell. Prior to enlistment he worked as a Plumber. Colin was one of thirty two Inverell men who were given a public farewell in front of the Town Hall on 21 August 1915.

He joined the 30^th Battalion, 7^th Reinforcement and departed Australia on the ship HMAT A20 Hororata in May 1916, arriving in Egypt a few weeks later.  His Battalion was sent to France in August. During February 1917 he was ill with bronchitis and was evacuated to hospital in England for treatment.  He then attended a Lewis Gun School at Tidsworth, was promoted to Lance Corporal and returned to France in October.  The following year he was invalided to England with gunshot wounds to both legs and admitted to Bath hospital.  He died of disease at Chillingworth, Yorkshire, England on 17 November 1918 and was buried in the Wesleyan Cemetery there. His full military funeral was attended by Aunts and Cousins.

Just prior to leaving Australia Colin had married Alice Edwards and they had one child.

At Inverell Colin’s name is inscribed on the Honor Roll and Cenotaph.  He was one of 215 men for whom a memorial tree was planted in Kurrajong Parade in 1919.
