WALKER, Norman

Norman was born in Tasmania, one of three sons of James and Mary Jane Walker.  The family moved to Tingha NSW about 1902 where his father worked on the tin mines as a dredge master. 

Norman was an eighteen year old Miner at Tingha when he enlisted at Armidale in August 1915.  He joined the 7th Light Horse Regiment, 15th Reinforcement which left Australia on HMAT A67 Orsova in March 1916.  He was in Egypt for a few months before being sent to England and then France in September 1916. 

Norman was Killed in Action on 4 December 1916 at Le Boeufs, Somme, France and buried at Guards Cemetery, Les Boeufs, France. His few personal possessions including a disc, badges and metal watch were returned to his father.

Private Norman Walker is remembered at Tingha where his name is recorded on the Cenotaph and Honor Roll.
