BALDWIN, Frank

Frank’s birth to Jeremiah and Annie Baldwin was registered at Inverell in 1893. He was a twenty one year old Labourer at Staggy Creek, west of Inverell when he enlisted at Liverpool NSW in August 1915.

He joined the 3rd Battalion, 11th Reinforcement and sailed from Sydney on HMAT A14 Euripides in November 1915.  Three months later, whilst in Egypt, he was transferred to the 53rd Battalion and in June 1916 sent to France. He was badly wounded by a bomb near Fromelles in September and subsequently died of his injuries.  Private Frank Baldwin is buried at Estaires Communal Cemetery, France. His personal effects which included a disc and chain, pen knife, ring, corkscrew and photo were returned to his father.

Private Baldwin has his name inscribed on the Inverell Honor Roll and Cenotaph.  In 1919 he was one of the men for whom a memorial tree was planted in Kurrajong Parade. His brother, Ernest, joined the Second Kurrajongs in 1916, fought on the Western Front and returned home in 1919.
