FIBBINS, Arthur

Arthur was the son of Charles and Annie Fibbins.  At the age of twenty two he enlisted at Warwick, Queensland in January 1916, stating that he was a Labourer, born at Yetman NSW where he had attended school. He joined the 41^st Battalion, D Company and left Australia on the ship HMAT A64, Demosthenes in May 1916.  Two months later he arrived in England and after further training was sent to France in March 1917.  The following year he attended a week long Lewis Gun School in August.

Arthur was awarded the Military Medal for ‘work near Proyart on 11-12 August 1918’. Three weeks later he was wounded and died of his injuries on 2 September 1918.  Arthur was buried at Daours Communal Cemetery Extension, France.  His remaining possessions were sent to his Mother at Inverell and included a disc, wallet, coins, compass, photos and a religious medallion.

Arthur’s name is recorded on the Yetman Honor Roll.
