EWEN, John Findlay

John’s birth was registered at Queanbeyan in 1893. He was one of a large family born to Frederick and Florence Ewen.  John’s father was a member of the NSW Police and served at numerous NSW towns, including Inverell. As Police Inspector he served on the Inverell Recruiting Association Committee during 1915.

John, a twenty one year old Shop Assistant, first enlisted in Sydney in August 1914 and departed Australia with the 4th Battalion shortly afterwards. He was returned to Australia in July 1915 and discharged as medically unfit.  The Inverell Times newspaper 29 March 1916 records him as departing town with 18 other recruits on 28 March 1916.

No further information has been found regarding any additional service John may have undertaken.
