GARDINER, Stanley John

Stanley was born to John and Ellen Gardiner at Tamworth NSW.  He was working as a Postal Assistant at Delungra Post Office when, at the age of nineteen and with his parents permission, he enlisted at Inverell in January 1918. Stanley was given a public farewell at Delungra in April when he was presented with a silver match box and socks.

He became an Air Mechanic with the Australian Flying Corps and departed Australia on SS Zealandic in October 1918. He arrived in England in December where he served until his return to Australia in May 1919. He also served during World War 11.

Stanley’s name is recorded on the Delungra Honor Roll and on the new Anzac Memorial gate at Delungra.
