HEYDON, Samuel

Samuel was the son of William and Janet Heydon of Leichardt, Sydney. At the age of twenty two he enlisted in Sydney in August 1914 giving his occupation as Blacksmith. He joined the Field Artillery Brigade 1, Battery 2 and left Australia on the troop transport A8 Argyllshire in October.  He served as a Driver at Gallipoli and in Egypt. Just before being sent to France in 1916 was appointed Shoeing smith. Whilst in France he was ill on several occasions.

Samuel returned to Australia in 1918 and was discharged in February 1919. The name of S. Heydon is recorded on the Delungra Honor Roll and on the new Anzac Memorial in Delungra.

Although at this time there is no known connection with the Delungra District, it is believed that the name recorded is for Driver S. Heydon, Regimental number 233.
