CONSTABLE, George William

George was a son of George and Elizabeth Constable of Delungra NSW and attended Delungra Public School.  He was working as a Baker at Delungra when at the age of nineteen he enlisted at Warialda in April 1918.  As he was under age his parents gave their permission for George to serve overseas.

George went into Army Camp where he was promoted to Acting Sergeant in October 1918. Whilst home on final leave a farewell function was organised for him and he was presented with a silver matchbox and two pairs of socks before returning to camp. With the end of the War approaching, and before he could be sent overseas, George was demobilised on 7 November 1918.

His name is recorded on the Delungra Public School Honor Roll, the Delungra Roll of Honor and on the new Anzac Memorial at the park in Delungra. George also served during World War II.
