BADEN, William Henry

William was born at Croydon, in the county of Surry, England where he lived with his parents William and Annie. It is not known when he came to Australia.

William enlisted at Narrabri NSW in May 1916 after having his medical examination at Warialda. He gave his address as care of the Warialda Railway Station. William stated he was forty five years old and that he had served fourteen years with the Rifle Brigade and Royal Garrison. It is possible he served in South Africa and India before coming to Australia.

After joining the 33rd Battalion, 5th Reinforcement William left Australia on SS Port Napier in November and arrived in England in January 1917. During May he attended a School of Instruction at Tidworth. Four months later he was returned to Australia and medically discharged in December. William returned to the Warialda district where he lived until just before his death in Sydney in 1937.

William’s name is recorded on the Delungra Roll of Honor and on the new memorial gate at Anzac Park, Delungra.
