BUDSWORTH, Wilfred Ernest

Wilfred was a son of Agnes Budsworth and was born at Tamworth in 1900. He enlisted at Inverell on 5 June 1918 and passed his medical examination at Tingha the following day. At the time he stated he was a Labourer and that he had been in Senior Cadets for four years. He may have been influenced or encouraged to enlist by other relatives who had volunteered.

Eventually the authorities established that Wilfred had put his age up and his application to enlist was cancelled on 20 July 1918.

Wilfred later married at Inverell and died at Tamworth in 1976. He was one of Australia’s Indigenous men to enlist for service during World War 1.
