LOCKMAN, Robert William

Robert was a thirty two year old Farmer at Yanco NSW when he enlisted in January 1917 at Cootamundra. He had previously been rejected at Inverell due to his eyesight. Robert stated he was born in London England, however his parents have not been confirmed. His Aunt, Mrs. Cure, lived at Delungra, NSW.

Robert joined the 6th Light Horse Regiment, 26th Reinforcement and left Australia for Egypt on HMAT A42 Boorara in May 1917. He served in Egypt until returned to Australia in 1919 and medically discharged. After his return he was invited to a ‘Welcome Home’ for soldiers at Delungra, however he was unable to attend.

Robert married in 1920 and acquired a Soldier’s farm at Yenda NSW where he lived for many years. He died in 1948. Robert Lockman has his name recorded on the new memorial at Anzac Park, Delungra.
