YOUNIE, Arthur Harold

Arthur was the eldest son of Alexander and Esther Younie of Delungra NSW. He was a nineteen year old Station Hand at Delungra when he enlisted at Inverell in October 1915. He was one of three men given a ‘send-off’ at Delungra in December and presented with ‘souvenirs’.

He joined the 1st Light Horse Regiment, 14th Reinforcement and left Australia for Egypt on HMAT RMS Osterley in January 1916. At Ferry Post he was a Gunner until appointed a Driver in May. The following month he was sent to France where he remained until returning to Australia in July 1919 and discharged.

After the War Arthur married and lived in the Delungra district until moving to Inverell. Following his death in 1964 he was buried at Inverell.

Arthur Younie has his name inscribed on the Delungra Honor Roll and on the new memorial at Anzac Park.
