COLE, Ernest

Ernest was the third son of John and Catherine Cole of Yetman NSW. He was a forty one year old Widower working as a Labourer at Yetman when he enlisted at Armidale in April 1916. He had passed his medical examination at Inverell the previous month.

Ernest became a Trooper with the Light Horse Regiment in July 1916 until his transfer in September to the 29th Battalion, 11th Reinforcement. He left Australia on HMAT A19 Afric in November, arriving in England in January 1917. His war service was in England until his return to Australia at the beginning of 1918. He was medically discharged in April and upon his return to Yetman was given a ‘Welcome Home’ function. Ernest died in Sydney in 1927.

Ernest Cole has his name inscribed on the Inverell and Yetman Honor Rolls.
