RAVEN, Charles William

Charles was born in Ipswich, England. He was working in the Inverell district when he tried to enlist in 1915 and was rejected due to eyesight. He tried again and was accepted at Armidale in November 1916. At the age of twenty two he joined the 33rd Battalion, 7th Reinforcement and left Australia for England on HMAT A68 Anchises in January 1917. After four months training he was sent to France in July 1917. During April 1918 he was gassed and invalided back to England where he was admitted to Exeter Hospital for treatment. He returned to France in October 1918.

Charles returned to Australia and was medically discharged in August 1919. After the war he worked at ‘Tucka Tucka’ Station Yetman and by 1943 was living in Inverell with his wife and children.

Charles died at Inverell in 1953. His name is inscribed on the Gum Flat Honor Roll.
