KEELING, William John

Willam was the son of Mrs Mary Keeling of Gloucester, England. He was probably working in the Yetman district NSW before he enlisted in Sydney in January 1916.

Aged twenty two, William joined the 6th Light Horse Regiment, 18th Reinforcement and left Australia for Egypt on HMAT A20 Hororata in May 1916. His war service was in Egypt until April 1919 when he obtained leave to go to England.

He was discharged in London in July with the intention of returning to his home in Gloucestershire. Three months after his discharge, a Miss Ruby Sutton of Yetman Station wrote to Army headquarters inquiring about William. It is not known whether he ever returned to Australia.

It is likely that the name W. Keiling on the Yetman Honor Roll is this William Keeling.
