DOYLE, Francis

Francis was a son of John and Annie Doyle of Inverell and was educated at Inverell Intermediate High School. Francis, who had had 4 years experience with the 6th Light Horse, enlisted at Inverell in September 1915 when he was twenty two years old. He had previously been rejected in 1914 due to bad teeth. He joined the 30th Battalion, 3rd Reinforcement and left Australia for Egypt on HMAT A70 Ballarat in February 1916.

His Battalion was sent to France in June. Francis was wounded in action three times. He returned to Australia in 1919. During World War II he served again from 1940-44. Francis died in 1960 and is buried at Albury NSW. His name is inscribed on the Inverell Honor Roll and the Inverell Intermediate High School Honour Roll. His brother William also served in WWI.
