TUBIE, Henry Harold

Henry was born in the Inverell District to Frederick and Annie Tubie. He was a member of the 6th Light Horse prior to enlisting at Inverell in December 1915. He was married with two children at this time.

Henry joined the 33rd Battalion, C Company, was appointed Sergeant, and left Australia on HMAT A74 Marathon in May 1916. After arriving in England in July further training was undertaken and he was promoted to Corporal before being sent to France in November. A month later he was diagnosed with a heart condition, invalided back to England and admitted to 3rd London General Hospital at Wandsworth. Two months later he was sent to No 2 Command Depot at Weymouth and returned to Australia in July 1917 when he was medically discharged.

Henry was granted a pension for himself with extra for his wife and children. He lived in Sydney where he died in 1940 at Randwick Military Hospital.

Henry Tubie’s name is inscribed on the Inverell Honor Roll and the Ross Hill Public School Honor Roll.
