LAMERAND, Louis

Louis, a Frenchman, was living with his parents at the property ‘Grantham’ Delungra when he left Australia to enlist in France in 1914. The family had been resident in the district for about four years.

Louis fought in France from June 1915. Three times he was mentioned in despatches and he also earned the Croix de Geurre medal.

By August 1918 he had returned to Delungra to visit his family and was given a Welcome Home at the Delungra School of Arts Hall. His friends presented him with a silver mounted pocket book as a mark of respect. A few days later Louis left Delungra to return to France.

Corporal Louis Lamerand has his name recorded on the Delungra Roll of Honor and on the new gate at Anzac Park, Delungra.
