WILKINSON, Henry Yetman

Henry, the son of Frederick and Mary Wilkinson, was born at Yetman NSW. At the age of twenty six he enlisted in October 1915 at Toowoomba Queensland, giving his address as Opal Vale, Texas Qld. He joined the 9^th Battalion, 15^th Reinforcement and sailed from Australia for Egypt on HMAT A73 Commonwealth in March 1916. He arrived in England in July and three months later was sent to France.

Henry was wounded in action in March 1917 and invalided to England for treatment of a gunshot wound to his thigh. He returned to his unit in France in October. Three months later he suffered a gunshot wound to the abdomen and subsequently died on 21 January 1918 in France. He was 28 years old.

Henry was buried at Trois-Arbres Cemetery, Steenwerck, France. His personal possessions, including a wallet, fountain pen, money belt, diary and silver watch and chain were packaged for return to his Father. Unfortunately, along with thousands of other such Australian soldiers packages, they were lost at sea when the ship transporting them was bombed.
