McRAE, Eric Hargraves

Eric was the second son of Alexander and Mary McRae who lived at Copeton NSW. At the age of eighteen, and with his parents permission to serve overseas, Eric enlisted at Inverell in February 1917. He had been working as a Miner in the Copeton area.

He became a member of the 7th Light Horse, 28th Reinforcement and sailed for Egypt on HMAT A17 Port Lincoln in June 1917. He served at the Dardanelles for just over a year before returning to Egypt and then Australia. After the War Eric lived at Mudgee NSW where he died in 1960.

Eric’s name is inscribed on the Inverell Honor Roll and the Copeton Roll of Honor.
