HALL, Walter Ernest

Walter’s birth to Henry and Annie Hall was registered in 1894 at Murrumburrah NSW. In October 1914, at the age of twenty, Walter enlisted at Liverpool NSW, giving his occupation as Shearer.

He joined the 1st Battalion, 2nd Reinforcement and sailed from Australia for Egypt on HMAT A48 Seang Bee in February 1915. Three months later, at Anzac Cove, Gallipoli, he was accidently shot in the left foot and invalided to England where he was admitted to hospital in Manchester. He was returned to Australia in October and discharged in February 1916, having been granted a pension of thirteen pounds per year. Two brothers also served during the War.

Walter married and had several children before he died in Sydney in 1938.

Although Walter’s connection with the Inverell district is unknown, his name is recorded on the Bonshaw Honor Roll.
