HOOPER, William Houston

William was born in the Glen Innes district where his birth was registered in 1888. His parents were Richard and Evangeline Hooper. When William enlisted in Sydney in April 1916 he stated he was a Station Manager at Emu Park, Texas, Queensland.

He sailed from Australia on HMAT A47 Mashobra in September 1916, arriving in England at the beginning of November. Four months later he was sent to France and appointed a Driver. The following month he was transferred as Gunner with the 1st Battery.

William returned to Australia in May 1919 and after discharge returned to the Bonshaw district NSW where his name is inscribed on the local Honor Roll.
