KERR, Ernest Gordon

Ernest, a son of James and Annie Kerr, was born at Elsmore in 1896. He enlisted in May 1916, recording his occupation as Farmer, and joined the Camel Corps November 1916 Reinforcements.

At Inverell, he was one of thirty men farewelled at the Town Hall in June 1916 and presented with the Inverell medal. Ernest departed Australia on HMAT A7 Medic in December 1916 and served with the 12th Light Horse Regiment in Egypt and Palestine.

Ernest returned to Australia in March 1919, married in 1923, and later lived in Sydney where he died in 1982. His name is inscribed on the Elsmore Roll of Honor and the Inverell Honor Roll.
