DOOLIN, Joseph Claude

Joseph was a twenty-six-year-old Miner at Copeton NSW when he enlisted at Armidale in November 1916. His parents were Edward and Louisa Doolin, living at Howell NSW.

Joseph became a member of the 36th Battalion, 6th Reinforcement and sailed from Australia for England on HMAT A72 Beltana in November 1916. After several months in England, he was sent to France in June 1917. The following month he was wounded in action, invalided back to England and admitted to 1st Southern General Hospital, Edgbaston. He was treated for a gunshot wound to his eye, arm and thigh and at the beginning of 1918 transferred to the AAMC for duty at No 1a Hospital, Harefield. He returned to Australia in November 1918 and was medically discharged in April 1919. After the war he lived in Sydney where he died in 1958.

Joseph’s name is recorded on the Copeton Roll of Honor and the Howell Public School Roll of Honour. His brother Edward and Raymond also served during the War.
