GOODYER, Robert Adrian

Robert was born at Glen Innes to James and Helen Goodyer. His father was a Hotel Keeper at several towns, including Inverell and Howell. Robert lived at Howell prior to becoming a Tramway employee in Sydney where he enlisted in December 1915.

He joined the 19th Battalion, 13th Reinforcement and sailed from Sydney for England on HMAT A31 Ajana in July 1916. He was ill on arrival in England and admitted to hospital where he was diagnosed with tuberculosis. Robert was returned to Australia on the hospital ship Kanowna and died two months later at Randwick Military Hospital. His burial took place at Randwick General Cemetery.

Robert’s name is recorded on the Howell Public School Roll of Honour.
