OLIVER, William Henry

William’s birth was registered at Glen Innes in 1893. His parents, Thomas and Clara lived in the Inverell district from the 1870s. Thomas enlisted at Warwick, Qld., in October 1916, stating that he was twenty-three, working as a Tank Sinker and giving his address at Dunrobin, Toobeah, Qld. He joined the 2nd Light Horse Regiment, 28th Reinforcement and sailed from Australia for Egypt on HMAT A15 Port Sydney in May 1917. He served in Egypt and in 1918 was promoted to Lance Corporal. He returned to Australia and was discharged in May 1919. William died at Goondiwindi in 1967. He may be the W. Oliver whose name is recorded on the Howell Public School Roll of Honour.
