MOORE, William John

William was born near Narrabri in 1893 to William and Margaret Moore. The family moved to a property north of Warialda near Coolatai about 1900. At the age of twenty-two, William enlisted at Narrabri in March 1916. Perhaps the Kurrajong recruiting drive and march influenced his decision to enlist. He joined the 33rd Battalion, 4th Reinforcement and sailed from Australia for England on HMAT A30 Borda in October 1916. After additional training he was sent to France in March 1917. Just a month later he was sent back to England suffering from appendicitis and admitted to the Military Hospital, Devonport. Following his recovery, he returned to France in July.

William returned to Australia in July 1919 and was medically discharged. After the War he worked on the family property ‘Glendon North’ near Coolatai. He died at Ashford in 1983 and was buried at the Inverell New General Cemetery.
