TREFONI, David Clifton

David’s birth to David and Wilhelmina Trefoni was registered at Hillgrove NSW in 1896. By 1902 the family had moved to the Tingha district near Inverell.

At the age of twenty, David enlisted in Sydney in December 1916 and joined the 1st Pioneer Battalion, 10th Reinforcement. His unit sailed from Australia for England on HMAT A68 Anchises in January 1917. After further training he was sent to France in June 1917. He was wounded in April 1918 and returned to Australia where he was medically discharged in August 1919. He made his home in Sydney where he died in 1957. Before the War, David was a Blacksmith and had served a six-month apprenticeship with Cusick Ltd., Coach builders at Inverell.

David’s name is recorded on the Howell Public School Roll of Honour.
