CARTER, Frederick

Frederick was born to David and Mary Carter at Swan Vale and his birth registered at Inverell in 1883. When he was thirty-one, Frederick enlisted at Liverpool NSW in November 1914. The following year he married at Liverpool, just before leaving Australia with the 3rd Battalion, 2nd Reinforcement on board HMAT A48 Seang Bee in February 1915.

Frederick was sent to Gallipoli where he was wounded in April 1915 and admitted to 1st General Hospital in Cairo with a bullet wound to his thigh. Following his recovery, he went back to Gallipoli in July and re-joined his unit. Although he was reported missing in August it was not until after a Court of Inquiry was held in June 1916 that it was determined he had been Killed in Action at Gallipoli.

Frederick has no known grave; his name is recorded on the Lone Pine Memorial to the Missing in Turkey.
