BARCLAY, David Gregg

David, the son of Robert and Louise Barclay, was born at Creswick, Victoria in 1896. He was working as a Farm Labourer in the Nullamanna district when he enlisted at Inverell in September 1915. He joined the 1st Light Horse Regiment, 13th Reinforcement and was among several Inverell men given a Civic Farewell before departure for Egypt on HMAT A60 Aeneas in December 1915.

David, a Driver with the 5th Divisional Ammunition Column, was sent to France in June 1916. He returned to Australia on the ship Orontes in May 1919 and demobilised three months later. In 1927 he married at Inverell and by the 1950s was living at Hamilton NSW where he died in 1966.

David’s name is recorded on the Nullamanna Honor Roll and the Inverell Honor Roll.
