BRIGGS, Francis Cloudly Curtis

Francis, a twenty-five-year-old single man, enlisted at Toowoomba, Queensland in September 1915. His birth, registered at Inverell in 1890, recorded William Briggs as his father.

Francis became a member of the 9th Battalion, 14th Reinforcement which sailed on HMAT
A62 Wandilla from Australia for Egypt in January 1916. After arriving at Alexandria he was transferred to the 4th Division Artillery, however he became ill and was admitted to hospital in Cairo. In June 1916 he was sent to France where he served for the rest of the War. During 1918 he was given leave in England. Francis married at Bath, Somerset in March 1919 and returned to Australia with his wife. He was discharged in September 1919 and later lived in Sydney where he died in 1971.

Francis has his name recorded on the Nullamanna Honor Roll.
