BRIGGS, Sidney

Sidney, the son of Ellen Briggs, was born in the Inverell district in 1895. At the age of twenty he enlisted at Toowoomba in September 1915 and joined the 15th Battalion, 15th Reinforcement. He sailed from Australia for Egypt on HMAT A73 Commonwealth in March 1916. Three months later he was sent to England and by the end of the year was serving in France. Sidney was wounded in action in August 1917 and sent to England for treatment for a gunshot wound to his arm. He was wounded a second time and admitted to Stratford Upon Avon War hospital with a gunshot wound to his ankle. He returned to Australia with his English wife and was medically discharged in September 1919. The following year he was living at Emmaville NSW. He died in 1970.
