BROWN, Arthur Thomas

Arthur, a son of Robert and Jane Brown, was born in the Inverell district in 1895. As a twenty year old single man, he enlisted at Inverell in November 1915 and became a member of the 4th Battalion, 15th Reinforcement. He departed Australia for Egypt on HMAT A15 Star of England in March 1916. Two months later he went to France where he was wounded in action. He was sent to England and admitted to London War Hospital for treatment. He then became ill and was admitted to Bulford Hospital. In April 1917 he went back to France and the following year suffered gas poisoning.

Arthur returned to Australia and was medically discharged in October 1919. He came back to the Inverell district where he married in 1926. During World War 11, Arthur enlisted again, serving with the 2nd Australian Garrison Battalion. Arthur died in 1985 and was buried at Inverell.

Arthur’s name is recorded on the Inverell and Nullamanna Honor Rolls.
