BURNS, Robert

Robert, a son of John and Matilda Burns, was a twenty-two-year-old farmer at Nullamanna when he enlisted at Narrabri in October 1915. At this time he was given six weeks leave without pay to harvest his crops before going into camp.

Robert joined the 2st Light Horse Regiment, 15th Reinforcement, and sailed from Australia for Egypt on HMAT A26 Armadale in March 1916. He went to France in June, became ill and was sent to England for treatment at the 2nd Scottish Hospital. Several months later the decision was made to return him to Australia where he was medically discharged in February 1917. Robert died in Sydney in 1953. His name is recorded on the Nullamanna Honor Roll.
