SHARPE, William Ernest

William was the son of John Sharpe of Nullamanna. He enlisted at Armidale in August 1916, stating he was a twenty-one-year-old Labourer living at Nullamanna.

He joined the 53rd Battalion 8th Reinforcement and sailed for England on HMAT A29 Suevic in November 1916. After further training in England, he was sent to France in June 1917. During April 1918 he was wounded in action and transferred back to England where he was admitted to Guildford War Hospital with a gunshot wound to his chest. He returned to Australia and was medically discharged in August 1919. After the War William married and lived at Nullamanna. During WWII he enlisted again in 1942 at Adamstown NSW.

William’s name is recorded on the Nullamanna Honor Roll.
