MOORE, John Christian

John, a son of Charles and Matilda Moore, enlisted at Narrabri in May 1916. As he was only eighteen years old, his parents gave their permission for him to serve overseas. He gave his address as Gravelly Ridge, Bonshaw NSW.

John joined the 1st Light Horse Regiment, 23rd Reinforcement and sailed from Australia for Egypt on RMS Karmala in February 1917. Early in 1918 he was appointed as groom to Major Love and in October detached to the Desert Reinforcements Camp at Beirut. He returned to Australia and was discharged in August 1919.

During the Second World War, John enlisted in 1943 at Warwick, Queensland. He was a married man, working as a station manager at Cement Hills. After the War he returned to the district and died in Queensland in 1962. His brother Claude also served during World War I.

John has his name recorded on the Ashford and Bonshaw Honor Rolls.
