DAVISON, Cuthbert Glen

Sergeant Cuthbert Davison was one of five men who left Inverell on 19 August 1914 with Captain Gordon to enlist in Sydney. Prior to the War he was a twenty year old Clerk with the Inverell Branch of the Bank of NSW. Born at Mount Gambier, South Australia, he was educated at St Peter's School in Adelaide where he excelled in athletics and rowing. Later he became a keen and skilful footballer.

Upon enlistment he was made a Corporal with the 2nd Battalion, B Company and sailed from Australia on the transport ship A23 Suffolk on 18 October 1914. After arriving in Egypt his Battalion undertook further training until participating in the landing at Gallipoli on 25 April 1915. Cuthbert was killed in action during an attack on Turkish trenches sometime between the 7 - 14 August 1915. He is buried at Lone Pine Cemetery, Gallipoli.

The name of Sergeant Cuthbert Glen Davison is inscribed on the Inverell Honor Roll and Cenotaph and in 1919 he was one of the 215 men for whom a memorial tree was planted in Kurrajong Parade.
