TREDREA, John and Roy

John and Roy were the sons of Joseph and Sophia Tredrea of Emmaville NSW. The brothers enlisted together in Sydney in August 1915, giving their address as Spring Vale, Rocky Creek, via Ashford NSW. Whilst home on final leave they were given a farewell at Jekyll’s Hall, Emmaville. John was also given a farewell by Rifle Club members and presented with a luminous watch.

John, aged twenty six, and Roy, twenty one, joined the 6th Light Horse Regiment, 12th Reinforcement and sailed from Australia for Egypt on HMAT A34 Persic in November 1915.

Roy was promoted to Corporal in May 1916 and the following month both brothers were sent to France. Roy was transferred to the Australian General Base Depot and in 1918 appointed to the permanent staff of this unit. He returned to Australia and was discharged. He lived in Sydney where he died in 1966.

John, who had transferred to the 13th Field Artillery Brigade, was appointed Bombardier in August 1918. He returned to Australia and was discharged in September 1919. He came back to the Ashford district and died in 1951.

Both men have their names recorded on the Emmaville Honor Roll and John has his name on the Ashford Honor Roll.
