MORRIS, Colin Alfred

Colin, the 19 year old son of Richard and Mary Morris of Mt. Ena, Wallangra, enlisted at Inverell on 20 January 1916.  He joined other district men to form the Second Contingent of the Kurrajongs who left Inverell together on 29 February.  His brother Walter enlisted one month later.

Colin became a Private with the 33rd Battalion 4th Reinforcement and trained at Armidale and Rutherford prior to leaving Australia on HMAT A30 Borda in October 1916.  After a long voyage his Battalion arrived in England on 9 January 1917 where further training was undertaken.  Eventually they were sent to France on 3 April.  Colin was wounded in action on 9 June 1917 during the Battle of Messines.  He was evacuated to England and admitted to 1st Southern General Hospital, Edgbaston with a severe gunshot wound to his leg.  After recovering he returned to Australia in May 1918 and was medically discharged the following month.  He lived at Inverell until his death in Sydney in 1959. Colin was a cousin of Kurrajong Henry Pasterfield.

The name of Private Colin Morris is inscribed on the Inverell Honor Roll.
