HEWISON, Albert Walter

Albert, a railway employee, had been working at Inverell for two years when he enlisted with his good friend Private Percy Wright in 1915. He was a twenty two year old single man whose parents lived at Hurstville, Sydney.

He joined the 3rd Battalion, 14th Reinforcements as a Private and sailed from Sydney on RMS Osterley on 15 January 1916. He served in France and in August, in the same battle his friend Percy Wright was killed, received a gunshot wound to his left knee. This required his transfer to England where he was admitted to Grange Street Hospital, Manchester. By December he had rejoined his unit.

Private Albert Hewison returned to Australia in May 1919. At Inverell his name is recorded on the Inverell Honor Roll.
