McCROHON, William Clive

William’s birth to William and Frances McCrohon was registered at Bundarra in 1884. When he was twenty-two, he enlisted in Sydney giving his sister Kathleen as next of kin. He joined the 37th Battalion, 5th Reinforcement and sailed from Sydney on HMAT A24 Benalla in November 1916. After arriving in England in January 1917, he was promoted to Lance Corporal and attended Schools of Instruction at Tidworth and Aldershot before being sent to France in November. The following year he was promoted to Corporal, awarded the Military Medal, and mentioned in Despatches. (London Gazette No 31448 11 July 1919). He returned to Australia and lived in Sydney where he died in 1947.

William’s name is recorded on the Howell Roll of Honour. His brother Henry also served during the War.
