In July 2016 there will be special ceremonies at Fromelles and Pozieres to mark the Centenary of these two Battles during which many Australian men served and died. The Fromelles ceremony will be held at Pheasant Wood Military Cemetery on 19 July followed by the Pozieres Ceremony at 1st Australian Division Memorial on 23 July.

An unknown number of Inverell district men served through these battles.  There are five local men known to have died at Fromelles – George Benson, Cyril Johnston, Edwin Egan, Charles Woods and Charles Warby

Known Inverell district men who died at Pozieres include Ernest Stormer, Harry Trenerry, William Duncan, Norman Blain, Archibald Campbell, Albert Goodwin, Cecil Norris, Lindsay Olling, Alexander Rabbitt , John Scott, Harry Cameron, Gilbert Perkins Frederick Tighe, Dougald McLeanPercy Wright and Joseph William Hamilton (who enlisted under his Mother's maiden name of Buddsworth).

Representatives from Inverell will be at the Centenary Commemorations taking with them some Inverell made remembrance poppies to place on soldiers graves. One hundred and eighty Inverell district men are known to have died on the Western Front during World War 1.
